Shade & Light Product Warranty Policy

At Shade & Light, we stand behind the quality of our products. The following limited warranties apply to original residential purchasers, provided the products are installed and used in accordance with our instructions.

General Warranty Coverage

Covered:

    • Defects in materials or workmanship
    • Products made and assembled solely with Shade & Light original materials
    • Products installed in the original window for which they were intended

Not Covered:

    • Normal wear and tear
    • Damage from misuse, abuse, alterations, pests, pets, or improper cleaning
    • Environmental damage (salt air, moisture, sunlight, etc.)
    • Fire, flood, lightning, or other natural disasters
    • Unauthorized modifications or repairs
    • Removal, reinstallation, transportation, or labor costs
    • Discontinued or liquidated items

Warranty Responsibilities

Manufacturer (Shade & Light):

    • Will repair or replace defective products at our discretion
    • Offers free return shipping for repairs within the first 6 months of purchase
    • Offers free outbound shipping for all valid repairs during the warranty period

Retailer/Installer:

    • Responsible for removing and reinstalling the product in the customer’s home
    • Responsible for return shipping after 6 months from purchase
    • Advised to not attempt repairs, as doing so voids the warranty

Important: Any product that is opened, tampered with, or altered by a third party (non-Shade & Light technician) will no longer be covered under warranty.

Shipping & Return Policy

    • First 6 Months: Shade & Light covers return and reshipment costs for warranty repairs.
    • Months 6–36 (3 years): Customer pays to ship the item in; Shade & Light covers repairs and return shipping.
    • After 3 Years: Customer is responsible for all shipping and repair costs.

All free shipping applies to standard ground service only.

How To Obtain Warranty Service

Please contact Shade & Light customer service at (386) 788-5091 with the following:

    • Proof of original purchase (invoice)
    • Model and identification number
    • Description of the defect

Note: Unauthorized returns will not be accepted.

Shutters (Avondale Laguna Composite)

    • 15-Year Limited Warranty for original residential installation
    • Must be professionally installed and unmodified
    • Shade & Light will repair or replace defective components using similar parts
    • Excludes: Transportation, removal, reinstallation, or damage from improper use or environmental exposure

Exceptions & Limitations

In some cases, warranty service may not be possible due to factors beyond the control of Shade & Light, Inc. These include but are not limited to:

    • Discontinued Products or Components: If a fabric, color, hardware, or material used in the original product has been discontinued and is no longer available from suppliers, Shade & Light may not be able to offer an exact replacement. In such cases, we will make every effort to offer a comparable substitute, if available.
    • Third-Party Manufacturer Changes: Certain components, such as motors or remote systems, are supplied by third-party manufacturers. If a supplier discontinues operations or support (e.g., Bofu motors), Shade & Light may no longer be able to service or replace these parts under warranty. We will continue to honor our warranty where possible and offer alternatives (e.g., compatible replacement motors) when available.
    • Technological Obsolescence: Products that rely on outdated or unsupported technologies may not be serviceable in the future. Shade & Light will make reasonable efforts to assist but cannot guarantee compatibility or availability of replacement parts.
    • Battery-Powered/Motorized Limitations: Batteries (disposable or rechargeable) are not covered under warranty. Battery life may vary by usage and is not guaranteed.
    • Customer Damage During Return Shipping: Products damaged during return shipping due to insufficient packaging or mishandling by carriers are not covered.
    • Products Removed from Original Installation Site: The warranty is void if products are removed and reinstalled in a different location or window than originally intended, unless approved by Shade & Light in writing.
    • Unauthorized Repairs: Any attempt to modify or repair the product by an unauthorized person will void the warranty.

These scenarios do not reflect a failure in quality or workmanship by Shade & Light, and thus may fall outside the scope of warranty service. We remain committed to working with our customers to find fair and practical solutions.

Legal Disclaimer

This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have additional rights that vary from state to state. Some states do not allow limitations on how long a warranty lasts or exclusions of incidental or consequential damages, so the above may not apply.
