Exceptions & Limitations

In some cases, warranty service may not be possible due to factors beyond Shade & Light’s control. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Motor Functionality: All motors covered by a 5-year warranty from the date of sale may perform differently depending on charging practices, usage patterns, and operating conditions.
  • Motors Out of Warranty: Any motor requiring replacement after the warranty period must be returned to Shade & Light warehouse for replacement at the customers expense.
  • Discontinued Products or Components: If a fabric, color, or part has been discontinued, Shade & Light will make every effort to offer a comparable substitute when possible.
  • Third-Party Manufacturer Changes: Certain components (e.g., motors, remotes) are supplied by outside manufacturers. If a supplier discontinues support, Shade & Light will make reasonable efforts to provide compatible alternatives.
  • Technological Obsolescence: Some older or unsupported technologies may become non-serviceable.
  • Battery-Powered Limitations: Batteries (disposable or rechargeable) are not covered under warranty.
  • Damage During Return Shipping: Products damaged in transit due to poor packaging or carrier mishandling are not covered.
  • Products Removed from Original Installation Site: Warranty is void if the product is reinstalled in another location without written approval.
  • Unauthorized Repairs: Any attempt to modify or repair the product by an unauthorized person will void the warranty.

These situations do not represent a manufacturing defect and may fall outside the scope of warranty service. Shade & Light remains committed to assisting customers in finding fair and practical solutions whenever possible.

Wood Shutters (Limited 5-Year Warranty)

Our wood shutters are covered for 5 years against paint defects, fading, discoloration, and warping, when installed and maintained as intended.

Installation Warranty: If Shade & Light performs the measure and installation, we warrant the installation for 1 year from the date of install. After 1 year, a standard service call fee applies. If the dealer or a third party performs the measure and/or installation, Shade & Light warrants only the product itself. Installation errors, measuring mistakes, or transport-related damage are not covered.

Important Installation Requirement: To maintain warranty coverage, all shutters and cornices must be installed using screws. Installation with nails or alternative fasteners may compromise product performance and will void the warranty.

  • Warping, cracking, or splitting under normal interior conditions
  • Finish defects such as peeling, fading, or discoloration caused by manufacturing issues
  • Workmanship-related defects in materials or assembly

What’s Not Covered:

  • Damage due to misuse, abuse, neglect, alteration, or improper installation
  • Use of nails or improper fasteners
  • Exposure to excessive moisture or heat
  • Normal variations in wood grain, texture, or minor warping due to humidity
  • Costs for labor, travel, removal, reinstallation, packaging, or shipping
  • Incidental or consequential damages
